ORGANIZATION OF ASTROPHYSICAL EVIDENCE

The material in these three chapters discusses the primary cause of the 2300 BC event.

Chapter 17  Fire and the Dead – Commemoration of the Event  The earthwide commemoration of the event occurred at the same time of the year – the rising of the Pleiades constellation in the east at the time of sunset.  The Pleiades have a universal reputation for death and destruction throughout all cultures, and the ceremonies were associated with fire and remembrance of the dead.

Chapter 18  Identifying the Meteoroid Stream - the Taurids  The Taurid meteoroid stream at 2300 BC is identified as the causal source for the event, based on its orbital position within the Solar System which causes its encounter with the Earth at the above time.  The parent of the Taurids is Comet Encke which is considered to be a fragment of a giant comet which entered the Solar System at an earlier time.

Chapter 19  Mapping the Heavens – the Star Charts  The star charts appeared independently at 2300 BC in four main cultural areas – India, Mesopotamia, Egypt and China.  It is the first known appearance of star charts anywhere on the Earth.  The generation of the star charts were unique, in that they were not updated for hundreds of years.  The generation of these charts could be linked to apprehension of the Taurids reappearance.
